summative evaluation

Terms from Statistics for HCI: Making Sense of Quantitative Data

Focused on checking that the system works and is good enough, summative evaluation is performed at the end of the software development process on a pre-release product. It may be related to contractual obligations (whether the system meets agreed specifications) or may compare the system with others. Less formally, summative evaluation may simply be an assessment that enough work has been done based on the cumulative evidence from earlier stages. Contrast with formative evaluation.
